HANAMI 2026

a Japanese Cherry Blossom Picnic in Hanspaulka!

On Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 11:00 to 18:00, Prague’s Hanspaulka park will once again transform into a place where visitors can experience the atmosphere of hanami, the traditional Japanese celebration of blooming cherry blossoms.

Simply bring a picnic blanket, sit in the grass under the flowering trees, taste Japanese specialties, and spend a pleasant day with friends or family.

Hanami is one of the most beloved spring traditions in Japan. During the short period when cherry trees bloom, people gather under the blossoms to celebrate the arrival of spring and enjoy the fleeting beauty of the flowers together. The same atmosphere is brought to Hanspaulka each year by the Czech-Japanese Association, which is organizing the event for the seventh time.

The Prague hanami will offer visitors exactly what this celebration represents in Japan – picnicking under blooming trees, good food, meeting friends, and a relaxed spring atmosphere.

Throughout the day, visitors will be able to enjoy a wide range of Japanese specialties. Traditional sweets, high-quality teas, and popular Japanese street food will all be available. This year visitors can also look forward to ramen and the increasingly popular Japanese mochi donuts.

The atmosphere will be complemented by stalls featuring handmade art and crafts inspired by Japanese aesthetics, presented by Japanese and Czech artists, illustrators, and makers.

The program will also include intimate workshops and cultural experiences, allowing visitors to try Japanese culture first-hand. These include a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, origami, mizuhiki knot-tying, painting on textiles and porcelain, and a new activity at hanami this year – creating miniature Japanese interiors.

For children and playful adults, activities with small prizes will also be prepared.

A new feature of this year’s hanami will be a guided walk around the Hanspaulka neighborhood, leading visitors past the area’s beautiful villas. The walk will focus not only on the architecture of this part of Prague, but also on interesting Japanese connections that can be found nearby.

The event will begin with a short welcoming speech by invited guests.
The opening will also include a performance of the traditional Japanese dance Sakura Sakura, performed by participants of a workshop led by Izumo Sho Cho during the Japanese film festival Eigasai.

Practical information

📍 Hanspaulka – near the Růžák playground, Prague 6
📅 Saturday, April 25, 2026
🕚 11:00–18:00
🎟 Free entry

We recommend arriving by public transport. The nearest stop is Hanspaulka (bus 216, X131), from where you can take a short pleasant walk downhill towards the park and the Růžák playground.

Hanami is mainly about picnicking under blooming trees, so we recommend bringing your own picnic blanket. For visitors who forget theirs, the Czech-Japanese Association will also lend out the traditional blue picnic sheets commonly used in Japan during hanami.

A professional photographer will be present throughout the day to document the event. By entering the event area, visitors consent to photography and to the possible use of photographs for the organizer’s promotional purposes.

The event takes place in a beautiful public park, and we would like to preserve the space for future cultural events. We kindly ask visitors to respect the park and its surroundings.

We also aim to limit the use of single-use plastics and run the event as environmentally responsibly as possible. Due to the size of the event and the waste collection system in this location, separate waste sorting will not be available. Visitors are therefore asked to minimize waste and dispose of it only in designated places.

Hanspaulka park is a public space, so dogs are welcome. For the safety of all visitors and animals, we recommend keeping dogs on a leash, especially in crowded areas.

For safety reasons, any weapons are strictly prohibited at the event, including replicas or costume accessories (such as katanas, knives, throwing stars, etc.).

A medical professional will be present on site throughout the event.

🌸 We look forward to meeting you under the blooming cherry blossoms.
